The Orb of State

Next

The Országalma (literally, the State Apple), or the Orb of State, is a relic that was used in coronation ceremonies and signified the blessing of the church on the state. Thus, it was also utilized by sculptors and painters when they wished to make a representation of monarchial, divine right of kings.

The orb that can be seen today was first used by Káróly Róbert in 1301. Although an Orb of State was used before hand, the ancient one was lost in a power struggle, which ultimately resulted in the coronation of Káróly Róbert.
